Iranian Society of Parliamentary Literature Writers and Translators studies:

Critique Of First Democracy

Monday 6 July 2020

At the 33rd meeting of the Iranian Society of Parliamentary Literature Writers and Translators, took place virtually Monday night June 22, 2020, at Cadres’ Office in Tehran, Iran, the members exercised preparing a collective resolution according to Robert’s Rules of Order.

The Society built up on September 21, 2015, to promote professionalism in the Iranian parliamentary profession that just began to be understood after translation Robert’s Rules of Order into Persian.

The founders of the Society all are young people who participated in the workshops were held for teaching and exercising Robert’s Rules of Order.

Besides, all of them know English very well and their meetings run in English.

One of the main objectives of the Society is to analyze all systemic factors led to emerging the first democracy in the ancient Greek, and to understand why even in 21 century in the most courtiers the democracy is still a dream, and what it needs to do for making rule of law and a democratic republic?

To do the job, the members began their study whit reading and analyzing "First Democracy: The Challenge of an Ancient Idea", by Paul Woodruff.

Of course, their study would not be limited to this book, but they decided after finishing the book, to issue a resolution including some theses about the book.

At the last meeting took place virtually last Monday night, Mr. Saman Asrpooran, one of the members, briefed the floor about the fifth chapter titled: "Rule of Law".

The first section of this chapter describes briefly the trial of Socrates and concludes that: He is willing to die rather than to undermine the rule of law. He is willing to die for this even though the laws he is dying for belong to a form of government — democracy — which he considers badly misguided. Truly?

Unfortunately, "First Democracy" is full of contradictions, and one of them is seen in his analysis of the trial of Socrates.

While the floor was discussing the matter, a motion was proposed and adapted: the Society would issue a resolution about just this section of the book, of course, experimentally.

It’s necessary to emphasize that most of the Society’s documents should be issued in the form of resolution consisted of some theses about given subjects. Thus, it’s worth to exercise this practice.

Before the discussion begins, Mr. Samna chose as the secretary of the committee as the whole to draft the resolution and submit it to the floor to amend and approve.

During the negotiation over the contents of the document, each member suggested his ideas and explained which point must be included in the final resolution and why?

At the end of the meeting, the floor agreed that the draft probably would seem like a table of contents.

Thus, in the next meeting, this table of contents would play a role like the order of business and the businesses would be done properly.

Unfortunately, in the Iranian assembly, there are not any kind of logical rules of order and because of this, every Iranian modern organization is constantly in a situation of chaos-tyrant.

In this catastrophic situation. Robert’s Rules of Order, if well understood, would help us sourly. And the Iranian Society of Parliamentary Literature Writers and Translators’ main objective is just to promote these rules of order in Iranian modern societies of any kind.
