Robert’s Rules Of Order At The Iranian Teachers Organizing

Monday 6 July 2020

Iranian Teachers Organizing (IRO), despite its name that seems it is a professional one, indeed is a reformist political party, that according to its constitution, its members are only Iranian active or inactive teachers.

IRO is one of the first Iranian organizations that became familiar whit Robert’s Rules of Order more than 7 years ago.

At that time, some of the IRO’s officials, including Mrs. Naghiee, who is now IRO’s Secretary-General, came to the Office of Robert’s Rules of Order Workshops in Tehran, Iran.

At that meeting, the translator of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised 10th Edition into Persian, and the first self-learned of these rules explained to them the importance and necessity of Robert’s Rules of Order.

The explanation was effective and more than 10 of the IRo’s officials and members decided to participate in Robert’s Rules of Order workshop.

After the workshop, all of the participants acknowledged the significance of the rules for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of their organization.

Since that time, Mrs. Naghiee and other influential IRO’s officials kept their relationship with Robert’s Rules of Order and tried to take any opportunity for learning and teaching these rules within their organization.

Of course, over the last 7 years, both sides of the process, the trainer and the trainees obtained very useful experiences.

According to the last experiences the Iranian trainer has obtained, the best method of teaching rules of order in the place like Iran where any kind of rules of order is not yet known is attendance at every meeting presiding by a chairman who knows the rules very well, and most importantly, who is a professional parliamentarian. But from where we can find such a professional?

it seems that, for example, even an American professional parliamentarian sourly would face a lot of difficulties during presiding any Iranian meeting. As a result of 13 years of very unique experiences, unfortunately, it seems that the only rest option is participation in the meetings presiding by the first Iranian self-leaned of Robert’s Rules!

Fortunately, the first Iranian parliamentarian considers parliamentary practice as a profession very necessary for any society that seeks rule of law and democracy, and just because of this he has spent his life learning common parliamentary law and teach it to his fellow Iranian.

Mrs. Naghiee and her closed colleagues in the Iranian Teachers Organization know these facts and were attempting all the time to prepare the situation in which an assembly would be presided according to the Rules of Order and by the trainer.

Of course, it is very difficult, especially for Iranian activists, understanding that they don’t know very basic and very simple rules necessary for every meeting. And it is the main obstacle in the path.

Until now, Mrs. Naghiee has planed some schemes to introduce the effectiveness and efficiency of Robert’s Rules to here collogues but the resistance was vigorous.

On Wednesday morning, June 24. 2020, Mrs. Naghiee, called and explained a new scheme: the ITO has decided to develop its strategic planning and the members of the strategic planning committee agreed that the process goes on within Rules of Order.

Also, she said that ITO also decided that Robert’s Rules of Order should be one of the educational materials that the Organization would deliver to the membership as the whole.

Good news. But, as mentioned before, Mrs. Naghiee who has experienced the meeting under Rules of Order is attempting to share her experience has been faced vigorous resistance. Should see what happens this time.
